Kerala and Goa

Hello everybody!

This summer I'm doing a voluntary project in Trivandrum, Kerala and am planning to travel for a couple of weeks after it has finished. I was wondering if there are any places people recommend visiting in and around Kerala or Goa. Unfortunately, I have to keep my trip in the south of India as I don't really have much time but I was wondering if there are any must-see sights that people would recommend.

Thank you :)

Happy NY +survey

Namaste, community members!

My name is Natasha, and I'm traveling around the world with my husband. Right now we are in India, and we love it !! I have just joined this community.

I hope I can share some helpful/interesting information about India with all of you later on, but right now I am writing to ask you guys for a favor.

We are currently conducting a project for the Mayapur Tourism Department (India), and thus we would appreciate it very much if you take a few minutes to fill in this questionnaire.

The questionnaire is mostly about tourism preferences and is fully anonymous. It will take not more than 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you very much in advance!

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR =) !

Looking for shared room to rent in Mumbai

Hello, an indian man (my husband) is looking for a shared accomodation in Mumbai. He's ready to pay 3-4 thousand rupees per month. He needs to stay in Mumbai for 2-3 months only, so there's no question of paying for the whole year in advance. I can assure you that he's very decent and has no bad habits. If anyone knows anything about rooms for rent please do contact me.
Grateful Me

(no subject)

I am really jonesing for some brisket and Brunswick stew and spicy-sweet barbeque sauce.  Here in India, I've come across all sorts of foods, but not the aforementioned items.  As a kid, there were things I'd miss when we traveled--summer holidays--but surprisingly, as an adult, most of those cravings have diminished.  Maybe due to a maturing palate?

I also find it a bit weird that people who consider themselves "foodies" or "gourmands" know so little about Indian food.  I remember as a child arguing with one of my teachers about curry.  She insisted that it was that powdered stuff you get in the supermarket, while I told her--rather emphatically--that it was the term for the gravy that is in various Asian cuisines.  This went on to the point where my teacher reported me to the principle and a phone call to my mother was threatened.  This would have been in 4th or 5th grade, so maybe I was trying to bite off a bit more than I could chew?  In any case, I had my mom communicate CLEARLY with the teacher that I was right.

Having a spat with a teacher of this nature is rather precocious and my children are NOT encouraged to do the same.  I suppose it's an instance of do as I say.....

Desi music in Amreekan ad

I wanted to share this American advertisement with everyone.

Now, I don't know how common it is that American advertisements have recognisable Indian numbers playing in the background but I found it quite interesting. (Mods, please delete this post if you deem it inconsequential.)

The ad has clearly appropriated (or misappropriated?) one of the most famous Bollywood songs of the early 1990s. I don't know if the composer's widow or his estate got any royalties for this. Have at it :)
